"You believe that?"
"Sure. Why not?"
"Then why did you tell him about your past last night?"
D.J. froze halfway between standing and sitting. Her legs, still weak from the ordeal of the day before, wouldn't support her in such a position, and she fell back onto the couch. Her breath hissed out through her teeth when the jarring movement shot pain throughout her body. When the pain receded she glared at her angel. "How did you know about last night?"
Josie gave a smug smile. "I know everything about you, dear."
D.J. narrowed her eyes and focused on Josie's face. The angel stared back at her with wide blue eyes. "So I suppose you want to pity me too."
"Me?" Josie put her hot pink fingertips against the collar of her flowing dress in an innocent gesture. "I know you too well to pity you. Listen, I don't think you're going to find out anything from Christian's past to explain what's happening to you both now."
"Why not?"
"I can't tell you the details, but I'll tell you the basics: Christian's parents were murdered in front of him on a Lakeview street when he was twelve years old."
D.J. gasped. "Oh, how awful! No wonder he's so screwed up."
"People in glass houses, dear," Josie admonished.
